Who is producing medical robots?
Now it’s time to discuss some of the companies who manufacture these medical robots with cutting edge technologies.
First of them is Intuitive Surgical, whose revolutionary product was the Da Vinci Surgical System, which has been installed in over 1,242 places worldwide. The da Vinci system costs about $ 1.5 million to $ 1.75 million.
The second one is Medrobotics, which is privately held and visions to provide more patients with access to minimally invasive surgery. Its bellwether product is Flex Robotic System which performs surgery on the throat. The system costs $ 1.9 million to $ 2.3 million. At present, they are willing to expand their reach of surgery.
Now it comes to the Restoration Robotics, which is making many people happy by its ARTAS Robotic System. The system performs a hair follicle surgery and harvests hair on the human head. It takes a time of seven hours and costs about $ 5,000 to $ 15, 000. They are transforming patient experience with simulated results.
The growth of medical robots’ market
For the country where people think that health is more important than money and finds no other alternative, there the market of the medical robotics will be much higher. It is expected that 21.1% will increase it during the forecast period. Surgical robots play a vital role in the growth of market because there is more no. of surgical robots in medical robots.
In 2016, the laparoscopic surgery robot is expected to account the largest share of surgical robots due to the growing obesity, minimally invasive surgeries, high precision works, etc. From 2016 statistics, it is found that North America is using more number of medical robots. Europe stands next, and Asia-pacific stands after it.

Future
No doubt, robots have a bright future in the field of medicine because they can perform the task which human cannot and can go through the places where human hands cannot. They can revolutionize the principles and methods that are used nowadays. Some of the revolutionizing inventions that are in progress are:
- As there is the most advancement in surgical robots, still experiments are going on them to increase their capability through fewer, smaller incisions; integrating imaging for diagnostics and therapeutics and excellent delivery of focal therapies.
- Tiny bead-shaped robots controlled by Magnetic fields called as Drug delivering Micro Robots are going to make the clogged arteries and deliver the drug at the correct location. Bots are moving in our body. Fairy, isn’t it? Presently, its work is going on at Drexel University, Philadelphia.
- The University of Pennsylvania is going to introduce a robot driven C.T scanner which can image a standing, conscious horse without using any form of anaesthesia. It’s snapping speed is about 16,000 frames per second. Incredible!
- Harvard is building a soft exosuit type robot that facilitates a man with lower limb disability to walk on his legs for himself. It looks like a sort of exoskeleton that eliminates the thought of invalidity by regaining mobility. Great!
- Heart failure is a major problem nowadays. So, scientists are developing a lightweight silicon-based apparatus which acts like a robotic heart sleeve that helps in pumping blood and alters the cardiac arrests. Exciting right?
- The Rwandan government is planning to construct three drone ports in Muhanga district to supply the blood and other medical supplies rapidly to rural areas of Africa by using drones.
Likewise, there are many robots which are going to hit the market, and medical robots are expected to reach USD 12.80 billion by 2021.
Robots are awesome. As they are precise and dexterous, they can be substituted on behalf of humanity in the field of medicine. The only thing that drags us back from entering into medical robotics is that its high price. But one day soon, medical robots will overcome this drawback and may take over the operating room. Who knows, the step they took in this field may lead us to step out of operation theatres permanently!
